Communications Coordinator Position Description

Summary
The Communications Coordinator at MEC executes the organization’s communications strategy. This role involves creating and managing content across various platforms, ensuring brand consistency, and supporting advocacy efforts. The Communications Coordinator works closely with department heads and program personnel to meet their communications needs and enhance audience engagement.

Essential Duties
- This role handles the organization’s external and internal messaging.
- Assisting in the development and execution of communication strategies.
- Implement communications policies and procedures.
- With content support from other staff, create comprehensive communications plans and media kits for major initiatives.
- Produce and distribute strategic communication materials aligning with MEC’s mission.
- Produce content such as social media posts, emails, reports, blogs, press releases, and newsletters.
- Design and layout print and digital materials.
- Help produce promotional materials and media content for MEC events.
- Update web content in collaboration with IT support.
- Produce and edit video content to promote MEC’s initiatives.
- Be present for projects and take pictures and video for future website updates, newsletters, and promotions.
- Collaboratively produce multiple concurrent communications projects from concept to completion.
- Monitor and report on the progress of communications projects.
- Evaluate communications activities based on analytics and feedback.
- Prepare quarterly reports on web and social media engagement.
- Research and synthesize information for timely and impactful communication.
- Stay updated with media lists and new digital communication tools and platforms.

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Two to three years of experience in a communications role, preferably in the nonprofit or environmental sectors.
- Proficiency in graphic design and experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience in digital communications, web design, content management, and video production.
- An understanding of environmental justice; Ability to communicate clearly and effectively content that focuses on the right to a healthy environment, the protection of human rights, and sustainable development.

- Leadership Skills: Must be a proactive self-starter, able to work independently and collaboratively, with the ability to lead projects and foster a collaborative team environment.
- Organizing Skills: Ability to conduct multiple concurrent tasks with attention to detail and accuracy, adhering to deadlines.
- Industry Knowledge and Proficiency: Deep knowledge of communications, especially in nonprofit and environmental advocacy; Ability to use traditional and digital media to communicate complex messages.
- Language Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences; Proficiency in a second language is a plus.
- Reasoning Ability: Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; Ability to solve complex problems and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and content management systems; Experience with data handling and internet tools.
Work Environment
MEC offers teleworking options, appropriate for the work duties and at the discretion of supervisors. Most work for this position may be completed remotely. In-person meetings, and office time are required. The noise level in the office environment may be moderate due to staff phone calls and conversations. However, alternate working space is available throughout the co-working facility to use as desired.
Salary and Benefits
Annual salary range: $45,000 – $47,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
