As a member of Metropolitan Energy Center’s Board of Directors, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of our organization. This is an opportunity to contribute your expertise, passion, and leadership to a mission-driven organization committed to sustainability and community empowerment.
Roles and Responsibilities
Governance: Establishing and monitoring policies and programs that align with our mission.
Strategic Planning: Participating in the development and execution of our strategic plan, ensuring that it reflects our goals and priorities.
Fundraising: Engaging in fundraising activities to help secure the resources necessary for our work.
Advocacy: Representing Metropolitan Energy Center to stakeholders, including the community, funders, and policymakers.
Financial Oversight: Engaging in financial planning, reviewing financial reports, and ensuring that the organization is financially sound.
Mission Performance: Evaluating the effectiveness of our programs in achieving our mission.
Who We’re Looking For
Consider yourself a right fit if you have one or more of the following qualities:
- • Passionate about sustainability, environmental justice, and community development.
- • Experienced in governance, strategic planning, fundraising, or advocacy.
- • Ready to make a financial contribution and participate actively in fundraising efforts.
- • Committed to representing and advocating for Metropolitan Energy Center’s mission.
- • Connected to a community living in a geographic area affected by environmental injustices.
Who We Need On Our Board
You will fill a needed niche perspective if you identify with one or more of the following population groups:
- • Under 30 years of age
- • Hispanic or Latinx
- • BIPOC
- • Female
- • International and/or immigrant
- • A resident outside of urban Kansas City within the state of Missouri
- • Someone with an understanding of rural life and issues
Expectations of Commitment
- • Attending one full board meeting per quarter.
- • Serving on at least one committee that also meets quarterly or more.
- • Contributing approximately 5 hours per month on average to board-related activities, including meetings, preparation, and committee work.
