Starting in the fall of 2009, MEC began working with regional utilities Kansas City Power and Light and Missouri Gas Energy to improve home energy efficiency for customers of both companies.  Under the Home Performance with Energy Star (HPWES) program, KCPL and MGE provided financial incentives to homeowners for making investments in air sealing, insulation, new windows and other improvements.  As part of Energy Star, MEC administered the program, oversaw contractors and ran quality control.

In the fall of 2015, both companies announced that they were reworking their home efficiency programs, and MEC’s affiliation with the Energy Star program ended on December 31st, 2015.  KCPL does currently offer an incentive program for Missouri customers, which began in the spring of 2016.  Missouri Gas Energy (now LaClede Gas Company) also provides rebates for eligible gas appliances.   However, MEC has no connection with either of these programs.
