Starting in the fall of 2009, MEC began working with regional utilities Kansas City Power and Light (now Evergy) and Missouri Gas Energy (now Spire) to improve home energy efficiency for customers of both companies. Under the Home Performance with Energy Star (HPWES) program, Evergy and Spire provided financial incentives to homeowners for making investments in air sealing, insulation, new windows and other improvements. As part of Energy Star, MEC operated the program, oversaw contractors and ran quality control.
In the fall of 2015, both companies announced that they were reworking their home efficiency programs, and MEC’s affiliation with the utility programs ended on December 31st, 2015. Evegy currently offers an incentive program for Missouri customers, which began in the spring of 2016. Spire also provides rebates for eligible gas appliances. Please contact the utilities directly to access these programs.
