Bringing Purpose to Power

Healthier Homes for Kansas City

Winter shouldn’t be a season of worry. But for too many Kansas City families, the cold months bring drafty rooms, rising energy bills and indoor air that makes it harder to simply breathe, especially for children and older adults. For families already struggling to make ends meet, these problems can feel overwhelming as they face an impossible choice: to live in a home they can afford or one that is healthy for their family.

MEC’s Healthy Homes program offers comfort, safety and relief, helping families face these challenges with small but meaningful improvements. Our energy efficiency kits include practical items like LED bulbs, weather stripping and furnace filters. They might seem simple, but to a family shivering through winter or battling asthma triggers, these tools can change daily life, making a home warmer, safer and healthier right away. Many families cannot afford these supplies on their own, but they make a real difference. A warmer bedroom. A safer living space. A lower utility bill that frees up money for groceries.

For more than 40 years, MEC has helped Kansas City families create homes that are healthier, safer and more comfortable. We teach people how to reduce energy waste, protect their indoor air and care for the spaces their families depend on. When a home becomes warmer and safer, stress goes down, health improves, and families can focus on what matters most.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking for your help. We’re raising $1,000 to provide energy efficiency kits and Healthy Homes presentations to families who need them most. Your gift, no matter the size, brings warmth, savings and clean air into someone’s home this winter. Your support helps us reach more families and continue this important work throughout Kansas City.
