In 2015 the City of Kansas City, MO adopted the Energy Empowerment Ordinance – No. 150299. The goal is to help businesses and residents to save money on their utility bills and create local jobs in energy efficiency. This information will also help our local utilities and City staff target future financial and technical assistance.
The ordinance requires all owners of non-city buildings larger than 50,000 sq. ft. and city buildings larger than 10,000 sq. ft. to report their building’s energy and water use on an annual basis.
Through a contract with the city via a U.S. Dept. of Energy grant, MEC has a customer service team to help owners of commercial, institutional, and multifamily submit their building’s energy and water data into ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager®.
